Well you will be pleased to know that i'm not calling you a racist .....but i will point out (just for balance) that the "ethnicity" you are referring to only applied on the first day following the shooting, by the 2nd and 3rd days it was a free for all with every piece of scum under the sun joining in so imo the "ethnicity" argument (with regards to the recent riots) is totally irrelevant after the first day
The video of the Malaysian student being robbed by people "helping" him was a prime example of that, the black guy pretending to help him with the white guy going through his bag. Thats the images that have been viewed around the world
Thats not being "pc" by the way, I am the least "pc" person you will meet, but you cant deny the facts, and the facts are that people of every colour were looting. To say it is an "ethnic" issue is ignoring the 1000's of others that took part.
Ive read last light by Alex Scarrow and thought it was a great book although it could have done without the hitman thread running through it, but "As Preppers" we should look at the facts of the riots and not the fiction.
What lessons from the riots so far ?

Re: What lessons from the riots so far ?
Although I read Last Light and a load of similar books, and sort of accepted that this kind of thing would happen - and also watched Katrina unfold on tv - I still didnt totally completely 100% believe that this would happen here. Maybe it's because I'm older, or have lived remote for over 30 years and am out of touch with city life/young people. But when you sit and see it in the flesh (well on telly lol) then you think my god yes it will happen here, no question.
And the whole racist thing is difficult isn't it... a racist to me is one who hates or looks down everybody of a certain race/colour just because they are of that race or colour. If you're just concerned that there are too many immigrants from other countries/cultures/morals coming to fill a city or island then that's not true racism. Its more like common bloody sense.

I agree with everything you said, CC. There ARE social problems between the black community and the police in inner cities and that needs to be addressed, but I don't know what the answers are. On a wider level, we need a cultural shift, so that kids respect their elders! That seems to be the fundamental problem, along with a generation with a sense of entitlement - they are far too materialistic and think that the more money you have the better a person that makes you.Carrot Cruncher wrote:Well you will be pleased to know that i'm not calling you a racist .....but i will point out (just for balance) that the "ethnicity" you are referring to only applied on the first day following the shooting, by the 2nd and 3rd days it was a free for all with every piece of scum under the sun joining in so imo the "ethnicity" argument (with regards to the recent riots) is totally irrelevant after the first day

Regarding the Malaysian student who was beaten then robbed, I wasn't sur if the black guy who appeared to be helpin him, and the white guy who robbed him, were actually in cahoots? They didn't appear to know each other, but I could be wrong. I was, however, INCENSED, watching that. I would have taken a bat to the evil, lowlife scum who went into that lad's backpack and worried about the consequences later. I was BEYOND angry.
On the upside, a facebook campaign was started to 'Do Something Nice for (I can't remember his name) and I believe that there has been enough donations to send him and his family somewhere for a day out somewhere. THAT'S true British spirit and I don't think that you would find that anywhere else in the world. So while in some respects I was ashamed to be British during the past week, other times I have been extremely proud.

Started by a young man as well. All profits from the tea sales go towards those affected by the riots.
Re: What lessons from the riots so far ?
As I said it Is fiction-but as an author Scarrow had the dynamics of the mob and feral "GANGSTA" culture sorted. We saw this unfold this week.I watched a couple of BBC interviews of white girls. They both tried to justify their actions-and they spoke in that ridiculous" Gangsta" Cant. The boyfriend had his trousers round his arse and one of those stupid hats .Do you know why these kids talk like that?or wear trousers like that?RESPECT!Carrot Cruncher wrote:Well you will be pleased to know that i'm not calling you a racist .....but i will point out (just for balance) that the "ethnicity" you are referring to only applied on the first day following the shooting, by the 2nd and 3rd days it was a free for all with every piece of scum under the sun joining in so imo the "ethnicity" argument (with regards to the recent riots) is totally irrelevant after the first day

Respect for Black American prisoners who have their belts a shoelaces removed to prevent suicide.Respect for thugs.Thugs!
How do I know these things?Because my teenage kids explained the culture to me when I pointed out how juvenile these youths look and sound.Black and White.

Re: What lessons from the riots so far ?
It may well be true....for some of them, but only some of them and thats my point.
Have you seen the pictures and list of occupations of the people who have been in court ? Everything from the lowest piece of chav scum to ballet dancers and Army personnel.
As you seem keen on referencing the book, he also mentions a group who attack the service station where his wife is, they weren't youths or "gangstas" were they ? No, they were people off the local estate.
As I said before, preppers need to look at the facts. I'm not doubting that the culture of a lot of young people is of wannabe gangstas........ but the looting wasn't just by those people was it ?

Re: What lessons from the riots so far ?
Oh, I am aware of the occupations of some of the looters, and their social status. However as you said yourself, initially the trouble was caused by black gang(s).Then the group dynamic took over.
Some years ago my Uncle set up a gym and martial arts 'Dojo' in Derby. He had a lot of black/Afro carribbean customers. They were there, quite openly, training for the 'Revolution'.
I see that Cameron has consulted a police expert from Los Angeles who stamped down on black gang culture. If the Gvt.are doing that tell me there's no problem.
