Paraffin is about £7 for 4 litres. You can get it in B&Q and Homebase.

I am only just down the road from Saints so I might have a look where that is. 90p a litre sounds good to me. I know I have the 3 wind up LED ones but it doesn't hurt to have some paraffin as I also have 3 or 4 hurricane lanterns and they do give off a little heat.

I assume you just take along your own container and if so what do you recommend? A petrol can type container?

Good luck against Rovers on Sunday, it would be nice to meet you at Wembley, but not before we have stuffed it up the Warriors live on BBC1 on Saturday afternoon.

Be lucky (and in the final)

Petrol cans would be OK, They sometimes have used 25Ltr used containers in a cage pallet at the side of the pumps, they need cleaning out before you can use them! if you have a word with the lads on the Trade Counter they will let you have them for a Pound each, I think its Tea fiddle money, whatever at a Pound each its well worth it.

Just have a look at the link I hope you find it useful

Thanks for that Bic.

Any idea how much the prepacked paraffin is or the lamp oil?

I keep a mix of Aladdin and duplex oil lamps as back-up lighting. The best online price for lamp oil I have found is at:

Ihave hurricane lamps, and more importantly greenhouse heaters, for when growing food may be literally,a matter of life or death. We used to have a petrol station in the next village that sold paraffin from the pump.before they closed I bought 20 gallons of the stuff for next to nowt. It's still viable.7 years on.

In the house though I will use LED.It's safe.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Plus we get powercuts every time a coos scratches her back end on a pole. And my house is full of halogen Ikea spotlights with 4-5-6 per fitting.

You can get LED bulbs that give off the same light as those halogen spots (I think) and are just 1 - 5 watt.

Yea I got plenty paraffin, it is very handy stuff and I like the nice soft light from the lamps. Anything that isnt electric is good I think.
