I have a freezer drawer full with tomatoes, I need to can into pasta sauce and the skins will be dehydrated and ground into tomato powder. It has the most amazing flavour all from what is normally considered a waste product!

I have jars of potatoes in slices, carrots, peppers, onions, courgettes and more potatoes to come! All from the Lottie. ;) I also have three pumpkins, one to can, one to dehydrate and one to eat. Butternut squash to dehydrate and eat.

Wow ! Her Maj took her eye off the ball with the tomatoes this year but I'm keen on the tomato powder, my latest distraction is trying to come up with a way to dehydrate stuff like bolognese. I'm being a bit geeky about it and I'm wondering if I can take the dehydrated ingredients away and make it from 'dehydrdated scratch'. I've been looking into dehydrating Quorn mince on the back of it.

That's some haul though.

Thank you! Once they started they just kept coming, and coming and coming! Love the tomato powder, isn't it tasty stuff!

You should be able to dehydrate spag bol, take a look at Bexar Prepper on utube, she does amazing things like that, Linda's pantry is another great one, personally I would do them in separate stages, all the meat, all the veggies then the pasta, if you cook then dehydrate the pasta it takes less time to come together which uses less fuel when used on the go. It also gives you more options, mince can be bolognese or chilli or cottage pie for example. Just my pennies worth though, do what you think is best for you.

I've looked at some of the Youtube stuff, thanks for taking the time to suggest them though. Because Her Maj is a veggie its Quorn mince we use so less fat to worry about which should make it last longer. I'm intrigued with making 'council house' MRE's though, using stuff like soya mince or chicken chunks combined with stuff like cuppa soups and other dried veg etc. Sadly I don't go for that many walks to justify it, more a case of having a play at the moment, that's why I picked up on your tomato 'dust', its something I want to do with the dehydrator instead of using the cuppa soups....

I think I'm going to need a bigger dehydrator.

2 Kgs Mince on the go, to replenish my camping supplies. :)
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Whilst away this Summer, my daughter looked after the polytunnel, which I planted with tomatoes and chilli peppers. She rang me in August to ask what to do with them all! Now she uses sun dried tomatoes a lot,so I said she should look up how to dehydrate them on the Web. She did, and now we have jars of them, and chillies too!

Fantastic!! Don't forget to bottle some also and water-bath for long term storage. Quick pasta sauce when herbs and dried onions added into the mix! Glad you got a dehydrator, it adds to the pantry and takes up less food space .

I've got 1 tray of Quorn mince chilli on to see if I can make my own 'rat pack' meals. It was one I had already done so it wasn't put together to be dehyrdated, the veg is larger than I'd have liked but as its a test run I thought I'd risk it for a biscuit. I'm looking at getting a vac sealer if its a success, more expense. :(
