I am thinking someone is trying to lead me astray  not telling my son - semi auto .308 or .223 = empty piggy banks forever.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I have a semi auto .22 and it is blooming lovely, the perfect rabbit and pigeon gun. Got a nice, inexpensive, scope on it and it breaks down to fit in my little backpack.

Though I do also have a .22 spring air rifle, it needs a new spring but has served me very well for 20+ years! Also got a modest scope that works a treat.
