And I'm really seriously glad I live up here. We haven't got anything like this up here. Not anything like the numbers you have down south. So maybe this hellish weather up here has it's good points eh? If I lived in any of these places I would get out now. No pondering or iffing or butting, I would just move.

I agree, trouble is some don't have the option or the money.diamond lil wrote:And I'm really seriously glad I live up here. We haven't got anything like this up here. Something like this Su, I would find or make a way. You only get one life, and wouldn't want to spend it living in a place like that. Some of those areas look like Beirut.

I had a conversation with the OH just a couple of days ago trying to get him to think of our alternative life ie what could he do to bring in an income other than his current job. I linked it to retirement as he doesn't want to be doing his current job for the next 20 years.diamond lil wrote:Something like this Su, I would find or make a way. I'm hoping that he comes up with something pretty damn quick so we can start doing something about it and start looking for a piece of land/woodland to put a small dwelling on and be semi self sufficient.
That is my get out plan. This city is not a big one compared to others that have been hit but there are rumblings and I don't like it (actually the city is a sh*thole!).

I'm in a similar position to you Su and have similar plans. It's worrying. I live not too far from some of the most violent and poor places in the England. I really do not fancy how things will be when they get worse :(and unfortunately i think they certainly will). I've got to move to the country at some point.
I think it's going to be very very tough for many places in the developed world over the next 10 years or so.
It's important to get and keep the right the mind state. They'll be some great opportunities during/after the "reset" but getting through the first stages though will be tough. Once it's done, i think the world will be a much better place for people.
Best of luck with acheiving your plans Su! And anyone else who's planning too!

What lessons from the riots?
If? Or when society breaks down, expect this to be normal activity-but without the law.
A good book to read(even though it is fiction)is Last Light by Alex Scarrow.Initial he details the activity of the feral youths. And in it he gets the general ethnicity right( and the wannabe ethnics). You only have to watch the CCTV footage this week to know this author has the drop on this type of social breakdown.
Please don't call me racist- I am just saying what I see.

In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.
Robert Frost.
Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

As for calling you a racist, I don’t think anyone here is that ignorant, but if they were the rest of us would see it as a reflection of their mentality and not yours.
The most basics aspect of being a prepper is not falling into everyone else’s trap of trying to sugar-coat reality because it makes them feel better.....

It is a book that changed my way of thinking about the whole world situation( I won't spoil it for you)and I think it will put into context for you ,what has happened this week.Triple_sod wrote:Ah thanks jansman just ordered that (£2.81, gotta love Amazon)jansman wrote:What lessons from the riots?
