The Bananas I dehydrated the other day did very well. I added a couple of tablespoons lemon juice and the same of honey to about a pint of water, sliced them about 1/4inch thick and as I sliced each one popped it in the honey lemon wash to help keep colour and add a bit of flavour, then once I'd finished I laid them out on the trays and dried them. Took about 8 hours. Dried to hard leather but will dry out completely to crumble in caramel icecream :D

Daft question. When you dip them in the wash, do you dab them with paper or put them. In the dryer like that? Expect more questions.

Sorry about typos and punctuation too. This new tablet has predictive typing and I hate it!

Thanks Brambles. My lovely wife was sceptical about the dryer.Until I ordered it and mentioned all the 'Nana's in the freezer. My ladies spend a fortune ( I have been informed! ) on dried fruits. I cannot stand the stuff. However, upon return from my daily toil I was treated to a pile of Kilner jars in the kitchen. All of a sudden she is on board .

Looks like we have a result. :D

I know how you feel, I'm strangely into it and its not my usual 'thing' but whatever works for you. Have fun with it playing around with times and temps, making your own jerky is great, making up the marinade to steep the meat in, I lean towards chilli, onion and garlic myself in a bit of balsamic and soya sauce for a couple of days before giving it a good dry. :D

Let us know how you get on with it amigo.

Dried fruits are very expensive, my youngest sister requires a constant supply of various dried fruits from me ;) apple rings, pineapple chunks, strawberries, kiwi fruits, mango, banana chips and everything else you can think of!

Good luck with your first session!

I've got pineapple on the go at the moment, I don't have a sweet tooth but I do like dried fruit, especially pineapple. :D

We have some very viable apple and plum trees here at Chez Jansman, and they never get harvested to their full potential. I reckon that once we get the hang of this drying lark those trees will be gold dust.

Oh,and thanks folks for the advice. There will be more questions! :D

A bit of lemony water for the apples, we've got an apple tree and it used to be under utilised before we got the dehydrator. We're planning on getting a press this year to see if we can make apple juice as well as dehydrating them. I don't think we'll make 'falling over' apple juice, neither of us are fans. We've got access to plums too but I've not tried dehydrating them yet.

More kilner jars required. :D
