I for one am planning for that... solar freeloaders and battery chargers etc. Should keep me going for a short while after doomsdayriversong wrote:Post Tits-Up, there will be no electricity to recharge.

Likewise, and the battery life in these is great now anyway. Plus I have a huge stash of AA and AAA, when buying something new I try to get the version that runs of them rather than the fancy camera batteries just for cross compatibility.mallie99 wrote:I for one am planning for that... solar freeloaders and battery chargers etc. Should keep me going for a short while after doomsdayriversong wrote:Post Tits-Up, there will be no electricity to recharge.

Hi WombatBad Wombat wrote:Hey Devonian, what's the battery life like on one of those? I have a few cheap 9 led / triple AAA torches around the place. They have excellent battery life, and enough brightness for walking around in the dark (no street lights in my village!), but can't project light much further than my own feet!Devonian wrote:...recently bought 3 of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007 ... sc=1&s=diy
I don't have any figures on battery life, but bear in mind that these torches have a Cree Chip (same as the LED Lenser) and they are not the old multiple LED's Bulbs (as you see on special offer in the petrol station!) which really are crap in comparison. However I expect that the battery life will be on par with the LED Lensers which is normally a long time - I can't remember the last time I had to change the batteries in a torch with a Cree Chip!!
Interestingly these torches are recommended to use a 14500 3.7v rechargeable battery (rather than a normal AA) and when you do, the brightness/power is supposed to be increased significantly! I am only using a normal Alkaline AA battery and even with that it is really really good!
I have traditionally always had LED Lensers and I still have 2 No. LED Lenser Police Tech's; and a LED Lenser K2, and I can't fault them, but these little cheap amazon ones are easily on a par with the equivalent LED Lenser and at the price you can buy several so that there is always one to hand.
Re: Torches
I prefer wind up torches to those using batteries, I never know how long those batteries have been on the shelf before I buy them and anyway it saves storing boxes and boxes of batteries. I like the "Task" torches-double beam and easy to use, £1 a time at a decent market or you can buy a box full online for not much.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.
Re: Torches
I have a wind up torch, but that really is the last resort, I would never choose to use

Thanks Devonian. I'll give one a try!

Have you ever used an "Cree Chip" Torch?lonewolf wrote:might I ask why that is?
If you have you will know why I have said that.
If you haven't, get yourself one!
