I'd like to think you're not totally correct Malthouse . Granted if it's a nuclear Armageddon or alien invasion we could take it as a certainty although ironically if we are stuck in a bunker for six months chess, monopoly and books might very well be vital.
I tend to look at peoples already living a more "primitive " lifestyle and our ancestors who though they have or had a basic hunter gatherer exsistance still found time to create songs, stories and dance and still had the time to paint cave walls and make " unnecessaries" like jewellery .
At this time of year with short days then yes there probably won't be much relaxation time , except for perhaps sex that can be done in the dark but in the summer with much longer hours of daylight then I think we will be able to work in some downtime at least in the longer term.
Optimism is a vital tool for any prepper.

That is a fair point, but a long way from the notion of needing something to fill the gap left behind by TV and Net. I am not suggesting there will be zero down time, just that the consumer society we enjoy now is heavily weighted towards leisure.

You cant beat a game of chess or a game of cards. I have recently came across a third game that I hold in similar regard. It is a game called Hnefatafl, aka The Viking Game or The Kings Table. I refer to it as The Kings Table myself. I recommend looking it up.
