A good couple of tips here; http://beforeitsnews.com/r2/?url=http:/ ... after.html
I'd be particularly interested in knowing if asbestos really does block metal detectors. It's still easy enough to get hold of (the concrete sheet kind) in old properties. I'm fairly certain it's subject to specialist disposal and a number of restrictions though, so I doubt burying it to help hide your cache is legal in the UK. Oh yeah and there's that whole thing about it potentially killing you over time too I guess.

I'd not heard about the asbestos thing and a google doesn't really bring up any definate decision. Looking around it seems the emphasis is more on fooling operators of detectors rather than the detectors themselves , burying it deep , covering up well and seeding the soil with metal rubbish to put people off the scent.
If you are burying an asbestos sheet then as long as it's damp there won't be a health issue. What you would need to be careful about is breaking it digging it up if it's dry enough to release fibres.
Also for what it's worth asbestos is normally "disposed" of by burying.
