You can buy a second hand single barrel for around £30 if you really wanted one.
I have a Baikal over/under that came with 2 barrels one is 28" and the other 30", different chokes on each all for £270, its as old as me and built like a tank!
There is a big second hand market (gunstar is a good place to look. no affiliation and all that)

Re: Shotgun price
Are you still allowed to use the gun outside the club, as it is a section one firearm and not a shotgun in terms of licencing therefore dose it not come under the same restrictions as a firearm ?. On your licence it states what each Firearm can be used for and where. As you know you need permission and a reason to acquire each gun. I have some friends who are in a target club that meet at Lydd ranges in Kent. They have .303 / 7.62 etc, but they can only use them on that range.tigs wrote:dreamcatcher wrote:Unless you have can show a real good reason to have a section 1 shotgun you will find it very difficult to acquire. A friend of mine bought a section one Air Gun and I had to give written permission for him to use it on my farm( within the condition of section one firearm). He cannot use it anywhere else as he does not have permission under section one.

Re: Shotgun price
I'm not 100% on this, but I think the whole idea of limiting where people shoot stems from fears about people using large calibre rifles on unsuitable land. In the case of shotguns though unless you’re using section 1 ammunition (slugs ect) the effect at the business end is universal, so if lands good for a section 2 it should also be cleared for a section 1.
That being said it is illegal to shoot any game bird with a gun that holds more than 3 cartridges
Also a lot of firearms departments apparently take a very dim view of people allowing others to shoot their sect1 shotguns even if the person in question has a FAC/SGC of their own.....worth bearing in mind.

You can only use a S1 shotgun where your ticket conditions say you can unless you have an open ticket.
Our firearms law is such that you *can't* borrow a S1 shotgun. You are only allowed to shoot the one you have on your ticket unlike any other S1 gun which can be borrowed (except long barrelled pistols/revolvers!)

Re: Shotgun price
Ah.....
In that case I'd imagine most forces only do so with great reluctance, certainly the only people I’ve known of having section 1’s granted purely for pest control have done it in some sort of professional capacity. Would envisage them applying similar stipulation on an open ticket?
Also didn't know there were actual laws in place prohibiting lending them although remember reading in ‘Legitimate Pursuits’ written around the time of the 1988 amendment that the police were kinda taken by surprise that something like 50,000 such guns were being held on shotgun certificates....which goes a long way to explain why they're still out to get them.

Different regions are more open to S1 shotguns for pest control than others from what I understand as well. But lending a S1 shotgun is a big no no unfortunately regardless of use.
If you already have a FAC/SGC and are a club member or already have permissions, just have a chat with your FEO, that's what they're for

I've got a S1 shotgun, all you need is a good enough reason to need one.

Yes, just like any other S1 firearm.
Although some forces are more difficult about granting slots for them for vermin.
