Stocking up from Lidl

I'd say, know the prices of your basics in ordinary supermarkets, sometimes Lidl and Aldi are way more. Cornflakes, for examples - the Basics/Value/Smartprice of cornflakes in the major supermarkets is about 30-32p for 500g, all are acceptable and the Asda ones are really lovely. But I don't think you'll find cornflakes at Lidl for anything approaching that price.

good point, i have just bought 283 items from asda delivered mainly tins, fish, pasta, soup, cornflakes, rice, sauces etc total price for the lot £132.80! average of 47p each got loads!

I will be 100% honest that I have never shopped in Lidl
I am going to take a trip to one this week.
My family eat most things .

What are good buys or bargains to put away into storage

I don't mind Lidl, but I prefer Aldi. I just think the quality is better for the same money.

Lidl DOES have some good brands, though, which are cheaper then the mainstream supermarkets. I got 24 Cushelle loo rolls in there for £7.00 a few weeks ago, and 10kg of a really good quality Basmati rice for a tenner. I was gutted when I went back and there was no loo roll left. The cheapest I can get it is £8.50 in Tesco.

I do have a mooch sometimes to see if they've got really good bulk deals on.

Lidl is great for the prepper. As others have said, try a tin before bulk buying just to check you like it. I adore the tins of Lidl Chicken Tikka Massala Its a real shame that they stopped selling their ambient processed cheese triangles.

As someone said above, the hot dog sausages are great and I agree, very, very, nice heated up on the BBQ rather than boiled in a pan (still very acceptable).

Another good thing I find with Lidl as that they seem to use more tins with a ring pull than other supermarkets, saves having to find/remember a tin opener!

Keep your eyes open for their "Taste Of......." Offers. You can mix up your stock of typical tins with things like tinned Greek meatballs, stuffed vine leaves, tins of French dauphinois potatoes etc.

Unscented bleach is cheap there.

Well worth signing up for their emails. They have offers that start on a Monday and a Thursday. Things like wind up torches, rechargeable batteries etc come up pretty regularly. They do sell cheap hand tools at times and while I'm not keen on cheap tools, they may get someone out of a tight spot at some point.

Well worth an initial and continued look.

Slightly off topic but I never boil hotdogs, if a bbq isnt an option i throw them in the frying pan with my onions a bit of finely chopped garlic, then smother them with tinned chilli! bloomin gorgeous.

Definitely try things before you buy a ton of stuff. Their washing up liquid takes my skin off! and some of their sauces upset me. However their tins of red kidney beans are some insane cheap price and really good. Same with the tinned tomatoes which are a bit tart, as you expect with cheap ones, but they're fine for chilli etc and better with a spoon of sugar added.

Since I retired I've more time to look around different stores and have found Lidl to be expensive on some items, nowhere near as cheap as they were a few years ago. I'm very picky what I buy there these days. The stewed steak (canned) is very good quality as is the canned sauerkraut which makes a great cabbage substitute in 'traditional' meals when camping (just rinse under water to clear the pickle brine). The canned fish is good too. I pop into my local two or three times a week as the fresh produce takes some beating in terms of quality and price.

Outdoor gear coming up shortly and they have some cracking bargains at times.
