Re: who else to prep for?.
I've not reached a point where I have a lot of land and a nice size house and well equipped workshop, sure I have a home and supplies for a year and resources for after that point, but I don't think I'd ever be 100% happy as even if I had a house/large workshop/lots of land, I'd want to build a large bunker and other things would come along, UAV's maybe.

Re: who else to prep for?.
land a house and a bunker is something i would like to invest in if i had the money. I am currently renting from friends, i had best keep buying those lottery tickets!!, my ex thought i was mad
for prepping/wanting a bunker so had to stop for a few years, she has blinkers on like so many people who are quite happy to ignore what is going on in the world. I am not prepping for a nuclear appocalypse mad max type world just a financial system collapse that is happening at the moment although the governments are trying there best to hide this from us. I just think a bunker would be a great thing to have, can be used for allsorts of things. wouldn't have to keep burying stuff for safe keeping if i had one. I dont see a problem in preparing for an uncertain future, seems a sensible thing to be doing seeing as prices for everything are going up all the time because of our dependancy on oil for everything. I have a large collection of heirloom seeds that i am adding to on a weekly basis so hopefully eventually i will not have to buy most of my food/medicine i can grow it. just need to find a like minded partner to help with the weeding!!. as an average man on the street with only a few pennies in my pocket i think buying a woodland is the only realistic cheapish way of buying land that i have found. where i could build my own bunker out of sight of prying eyes, http://www.woodlands.co.uk/. and it has a lot of natural resources already onsite.

Re: who else to prep for?.
trouble with buying land/woodland is its so darned expensive! in my area it ranges from £19,000 up to £35,000.....the cheapest i've seen in the last few years was £10,000 for some woodland and that was only a long narrow strip alongside the road!

Re: who else to prep for?.
Excellent site i_am_jim just found 8 acres near me for £35,000 I don't think that's extortionate for the South East and that's a fair chunk of land to own. Only had a brief look but I'm definately interested in the possibilities of a smaller wood or more remote tract.

Re: who else to prep for?.
the prices for some woods might be expensive, but if you have like minded friends you can club together, and i think they would make a great thing to own, your own woods where you can chill out, go camping with family and friends etc you can even put up your own cabin as long as it's not a permanent structure. make an area for growing veg and such like, dig a small lake or pond to encourage other wildlife. and not all of them are easy to get to for the general public, so that is privacy sorted. it is something i would like to have oneday. would be a lot of hard work to sort it all out, but i think it would be worth all the blood sweat and tears. and if you did have to sell it i can't imagine it would be a money loser.

Re: who else to prep for?.
And as far as I know you can get away with bunker building, and as you say there's the normal stuff like a shelter for tools and yourself under forrestry act, camping any time you like, coppicing, fishing (if you have/build lake).
Lots of possibilities and something I'm going to look into in more depth.
Cheers

Re: who else to prep for?.
yeah as you say building a structure underground is allowed with out any permission
happydays!! and a woodsmans shelter is allowed aswell. aslong as you don't chop all the trees down and concerete over everything you can get away with quite a bit.

True that. I read something on another forum, by someone in my hometown in the US, they had a way of heating water and had extra coffee when a longterm powercut hit (due to ice storm) - this was for a couple of weeks iirc. He or she made coffee for neighbors, to be neigborly you know, but then they told others and soon people from all over town were lining up for this person's coffee - and then when there was no more to be given out people got ugly.TwoDo wrote:
In a true SHTF situation where people are getting desperate, helping others might be dangerous to you and your family. The more people you help the more likely it is that one of their friends or family will ask them "where did you get that" - and they will get told (just like you, people want to look after friends and family). Rumours start and next thing you know you will have a queue at your door - begging with menaces. Once you have nothing left, they will never believe it and will attack you.

Who needs that??? Not me.
However, I do feel I have an obligation to help some people if I can - but am not sure how exactly I would do it. I haven't sorted everything out in my mind.
