I don't now. i have eaten tinned hotdog sausages 6 months after best before date before. The texture kinda went mushy and "all wrong" and the flavour was off a bit, but I didn't get ill so . . . . i guess you just have to risk it.
Food safety is a big issue, maybe try and search for foods with a useby date rather then sell by or best before, and stick to it.
I have never known of anyone who has suffered from botulism of salmonella before, but i sure as hell don't want to be the first that i know of

How longs a piece of string... They can last incredibly long time if stored cirrectly and in good condition. So only get tins without dents or scratches. Keep them in a dry, cool and constant temperature area. Most tins are 'best before' which means just that. They will still be edible but will start losing some of their nutritional value. Best thing to do is keep rotating, using the oldest tins you have whenever you buy new. This means if the s ever does htf you'll have the maximum possible life left. When you open the tin if it looks or smells wrong or the tin has expanded then its best left alone.

Been to cosco today and was doin a little bit of date snooping and I was looking at some tins of mackerel in tomato sauce and the date was like September 2015 so I got a case (15 tins) of them for £5 odd. I also got a case (35 bottles) of water for about £4.
Cosco I amazing for buying in bulk and nobody bats an eye lid because everyone is doing it, I love it!

just been on the Costco website, nearest store to us is Bristol much too far away, i think there may be some cash&carry's in Plymouth but that itself is a 100 mile round trip, so its back to the supermarkets for us. ;)

Tom is right, most tins are best before, and I regularky eat stuff'off date',and never suffer.
However, anything marked 'use by',dump it. I am in the food industry, and this issue is part of my job-eating somethig beyond its USE BY could make you ill. Or dead.
And you do not want to be ill in a world that is FUBAR. (told you I would get acronym in there! )as you will likely be in a YOYO situation.

Anyhow, keep shopping and rotating those hotdogs!

How close is Exeter for you? Used to have access to Makro there through work, was pretty reasonable. Admittedly the petrol for the 40 minute round trip probably outweighed the savings I made.

Makro is good for electronics but much the same as the shops for food and drink, but you do need a store card for cosco so if you did go they wouldn't let you in unless you had one, but it's the same as makro you can only get one if you have a trader card or your work is registered with them.
