There is a show about food allergies with some of the crew from embarrassing bodies and this was proposed as a hangover cure. I have used something similar for years to treat diarrhoea, generall illness, fatigue, dehydration or even when having done a lot of exercise or work outside.

1/2 pint of water
4 teaspoons of sugar or honey
1 teaspoon salt
Some fruit juice or finely chopped/mashed fruit such as apples, orange, lemon etc. Use more water if using chopped fruit

Mix it all together and you'll find it tastes like the 'salts' hydration powders you can get, basically because this is what you pay a few quid for in powdered form.

It's the same principle as Lucozade, the concentration of salt/sugar assists in the uptake of the water and salts/minerals and generally within about 30 mins you will notice the effects.

Honey is a great supplement also to this if available as it has analgesic (I heard also antibiotic but can't confirm) properties which is great for colds, sore throats and flu etc when put in warm water with fruit.
great recipe! I usually just use sugar and salt when I'm in need!

the salt and sugar are the electroyltes that you loose when sweating, vomiting, have the trotts etc, honey being a basically sugar will be an ideal substitue and great flavour too.

all honey (pasteurised or not) will have some antibacterial actions, "raw" honey will be much better and if it's local will also help to deal with seasonal rhinitis too! I try to have a little honey every day, use it in my morning coffee instead of refined sugar.

some store brands are packed full of refined sugar as well, so its worth checking the ingredients list, many brands use domestic as well as imported sources of honey too. the best thing you can do is find a local bee keep and ask if they supply raw honey.

honey is also great for wounds and burns and makes an excellent remedy with fresh lemon for colds, flu, sore throats etc, and it never goes off! plus, there are enough nutrients in it for a person to live off it! it's fantastic stuff and is a major part of my prepping stocks!

I used to make a sports rehydration drink with 1:1 water:fruit juice, and a good pinch of salt. Saved myself a fortune in Lucozade, back in the day when I was training 15-20 hours a week. Even now I can't drink "neat" fruit juice, too strong for me : )

Lots of athletes would use flat coke as well, especially in the longer endurance events.

This recipe looks good for recovering post-sickness and I think I will keep it, thank you.
