Have you tried those out RD? If so, how effective are they? I've heard mixed reports...

Yes, I have the Dr Denti one and it is great. :) Contains all you need for pretty much any dental emergency excepting local anaeshetic (add a half bottle of whisky and you're sorted  )

I might pick one up then. I'm only a few miles from my dentist but if we have a winter like we did last year and I couldn't even get my car out of the street for a week, then it may as well be on Mars!

This is the one I got...

Where I live there isn't a dentist within miles, so when I lost two fillings I used the temporary toothfill and it was excellent. Also contains a syringe in case you go abroad and need dental treatment, so you can give a dentist your own needle to use if need be. :)

Sorry, correction Bitsy, they seem to have stopped giving the syringe now! Don't know why, but if you do need one for abroad (or any other medical issue) syringes are easy to come by.

Gave the kids Sambucol last year (3 for 2 at Boots) and they stayed cold free. Stocked up this year again.
I take echinacea.

Just pondering the contents of the Winter Health Box, and thinking about flu. I live on my own, so (god forbid) I ever got flu, I understand that I would be laid up for a bit. I've got friends who would bob round with stuff, but I'd like to have enough to keep me going, at least. What, if anything, would needed in the medical box other than what's already been listed to help counter the effect of flu? Or is it a case of hiding in bed until it clears up?

If you've got it then you'll need stuff to eliminate the symptoms ie lemsip etc and take to your bed. Make sure you have plenty of fluids to hand (bottles of water, lucozade whatever you drink when you are ill).
Take Vits now to try and prevent it, carry anti bac gel with you, don't hold door handles etc with bare hands, you know the usual paranoid stuff!!! ;)

I take a multi-vit now but should I be taking anything else? Gawd, yes, tell me about it - where I work there are 000s of grubby students from all walks of like, transferring germs and god knows what else everywhere. YUK!!!

Itsy. download this book by Gratton Woodson. Plenty of info about treatment when you actually get ill withy flu etc. http://www.birdflumanual.com/resources/ ... 2010pt.pdf
Around this time, until March I have higher doses of Vitamins C and D, start taking Echinacea and use hand gel all the time when I'm out and about, handling change etc. I also have a yearly flu jab too.
Oh, and some friends swear by Vicks 'First Defence'.

Well...not to be indelicate, but I can tell you from personal experience when you get the flu, you can't really get out of bed. So at the first sign of it, load a box or table at your bedside/couch with soft drinks (though I recommend avoiding caffiene, flu can already strain the heart) and maybe some fruity bars, snack bars, that kinda thing, though you probably won't feel like eating much. Meds too, either paractamol and cough syrup or an all in one flu remedy. Plenty tissues, wet wipes, but....
when I had flu it was a real struggle to leave bed and go to the loo. I really recommend a small porta potti, or other type of 'instant' loo, because when I did go I fainted halfway there!
Sorry, I know it all sounds daft but real flu (as apposed to a virus or bad cold) really has you tied to bed for about a week or fortnight. That includes loo breaks :D
