Manchester folks - I left and moved to Buxton for a few years. I know you still need a car but once you get through Stockport/Disley you are soon into hills and the highest points of the country. The problems are the A6 (a pain at the best of times although if you plan now there are ways to get round it) and the weather.
Hi dont get me wrong i love my home, i am a cornish girl. But what scares me is the new madrid fault in amercica thats playing up at the mo. If this was to happen there would be no southwest left due to hugh waves, thats a real concern for me.

I would balance the probability of an event like that happening against other more likely events happening. If being in Cornwall is a plus for the other more likely events then I would decide for myself if a mega-tsunami of the scale required to wipeout the SW is ever likely to happen in my lifetime.
Make sure you check out some good, scientific, evidenced based research on the subject before making any decisions about moving. As usual there is a hell of a lot of junk on the internet about the subject and it can be difficult to find the decent stuff

Well said CC! I spent so much time thinking about prepping for A BIG EOTWAWKI EVENT that I didn't take care of my - and my OH's - health (we're getting through it OK). Now I only prep for the 'little' things (like bereavement, illness, unemployment etc. haha.) that are more likely to happen in life! By doing so I'll have a better chance of getting through the big stuff. Oh and I laugh at everything. My OH says I'm the most positive person on the planet!

Hi
Once again thankyu for ur reply, i have read lots around the subject, and i really dont believe everything i read, however u have given me food for thought and i do thank u for that.
I suppose the basics are the same abbie, for anybody. Start with a bag that has essentials in and that you can grab in a hurry if you had to get out fast for any reason...also some people in here I think have been through floods before.

Hi
Yes its important to have certain essentials as a reg nurse i know this, however people get desperate during hard times and behaviuor can change, therefore i feel that u need people behind u. Just taken a few things is not going to save u if ur not in numbers. its important to form gd friends and backup.

Sure these thing are important, however when we just concentrate on these things we find we become ignorant, not being aware of anything else apart from are controlled lifestyle, its so important to be awake of what is going on. Take care
The good news is that (as Lil says) the vast majority of preps discussed are valid for most types of scenarios from a power cut to a worldwide event so hopefully you will find some useful information and/or make some contacts.
