Duracell, generally are rubbish. They push out a new range every few years and their reputation is no longer deserved.
So how come they only get 1, 2 or 3% of reviews at 1 or 2 star?

Well, when I review something, I base it on my experience, not advertising. Duracell Rechargeable AAs has 85,000 reviews, 3% negative. The first negative one got sent 4 year old batteries. That's down to the merchant on Amazon.

£3.99 a pack in our Lidl ;)
Think I've seen them. Depends on whether you're near a Lidl.

I try to rely on good old fashioned anecdotes, opinionated prejudice and bigotry, coloured with a bit of experience, other peoples and my own. I often trust reviews too.
In the case of Duracell, I had ONE pp3 burst wide open and made a mess. and ONE badge engineered laptop battery labelled as duracell, which lasted less than 6 months. That's probably 2/3 of the Duracell's that I bought this decade. So, hardly a representative sample size, I'll grant you.

Yup. And I'm a vocal b**** :D
They have lots of no quibble 10 year guarantees which some make use of to get free torches etc.

It's just their business model to sell at high price, with no quibble guarantee which they probably insure. I'm happier with modest price, acceptable quality and no guarantee. Horses for courses.
Duracell seem to be brand whores, licensing their name and logo quite readily. There's lots of duracell stuff that never saw a Duracell factory.

Well, if it makes you happy, none of my AAA batteries are Duracell. :)

I know very little about Alkaline batteries, and I've never really noticed much difference from one to the next. I found myself picking up a brick from Asda yesterday, £12 for 50 AA, 5 year shelf life apparently.

Rechargeable nicads and nimh on the other hand, the best indicator I've found is weight, fairly weighty ones tend to be well equipped, was the case back when I used to race radio controlled cars in the 90s and seems to be the same now.

Recently bought some "tronik" AAs from Aldi or Lidl (can't remember which) going on the se theory and they're great.
