Hi

Post by colack »

Hi all, I'm a new member here, and thought 'd introduce myself.
I'm based in the North West and am 39 working a very normal job 5 days a week with people who would think me crazy if I said I had a bug out bag, and 72 hours worth of water and food stocked in the house.
I've been interested in survival techniques since I was a teenager out in the Peak District with my dad, and recently I've rekindled my love of skills and kit, and found this forum, so thought it would be a good way to get some recommendations, and also chat to people who are as sensible to prepare as me.
My prepping is for any national emergency situation where I wouldn't want my parents to be alone, so I always keep half a tank of petrol in the car, as they still live in the Peak District. I would like some ideas for kit for my bug out bag, as it only contains some basic rations, first aid kit, survival kit and paracord at the mo.
Looking forward to chatting to some of you

Hello and welcome.

Sounds like you've made a good start.
I would suggest that if you are planning to head to your parents house in the event of a 'situation' then you need to be considering storing water/food and other stuff there as well.

Your BOB should therefore contain stuff that that get you there whether that be by car or on foot.

There are lots of threads about BOBs so have a good read to get some ideas.

+1 to Su's comments.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Thanks for the welcome, my dad is of the same thought as me, and they have some water, food and wood stored, as well as growing their own veg, plus they are within walking distance of fields and a river. I'll have to work on my bug out bag, and also my routes. Look forward to using the forum and chatting to people

Thanks for even more welcomes, great to find this place to discuss and share ideas! Being prepared is just common sense, but its amazing how many people would think it weird. Hopefully later on I'll be able to contribute to threads rather than just take from them
