maybe £50 - £100 of tesco value tins so that you have a residual amount of food in case of unemployment?

As it's been mentioned many a time on here you don't need to go mad.

For example, when i started out I was in a sort of mad rush to get some supplies together but then over time i just started putting an extra tin of beans in the trolley, or an extra bottle of bleach in there and gradually it builds up.

Oh, and try before you stockpile. For example if you look at the Asda's own beef curry and you think 'yeah i'll like that' be sure, you don't want to be eating something you're not keen on. Tinned foods are great as you can always make on the go stoves with the tins they come in just by popping a few holes in em, but don't forget your tin openers. Candles are an essential too even if the power goes out for a few hours. (and on that note batteries too)

Maybe start geocaching i.e burying a few supplies in the ground somewhere close to where you reside. Might sound like i'm spoon-feeding, but try and use natural features to remember where your stashes are. No point using buildings then for whatever reason they've been demolished and you don't know where to start digging!

Make sure you know how to use those medical supplies too. Get yourself on a course, if the courses seem too pricey Youtube has a wealth of info.

I could go on forever but i think that's enough to think about for now. If you do need any more ideas, give myself a private message, or ask on the forums you'll get a reply either way.

Good luck and have fun fella!

P.S Tissues/toilet paper too. That just came to mind.

Its not that you *should*, rural cowboy - its about whether you see the need - what you're prepping for, will independent comms like that help you? I mean, the answer is probably yes, to be fair, but the same goes for comms as goes for the rest - get some training. I'm signed up with my local radio club to go on their course, and lots of people on here have done it. I do understand about buying kit and not investigating and training yourself up on it straight away, but sooner or later it needs to be done. Honest!
