new prepper from south yorkshire

Post by tjturner1 »

hi , i've been checking out this site for a few months now alongside a couple of american ones for ideas. i live in a small rural village and have an acre of land on which i have chickens, an orchard and a huge veg patch which im trying hard to master. ive been prepping now for about 8 months and have about 6 months of food stored, initially we set out to be more self sufficient, but had surplus fruit and veggies so started to learn new ways of storage long term, and before we knew it.........

im currently storing enough for six adults. two of which are my parents both of whom suffer from insulin diabetes and one of which is disabled and can't walk very far. so am interested in knowing more about ways of stabalising blood sugars using medicinal herbs etc.
my plans for this year are to secure my house and garden - thinking about window shutters as we have single glazed sash windows, but at a loss with garden as its currently surrounded by a haythorn hedge and surrounded by fields

would love to hear some of your ideas on what else i might have missed or forgotten about

Welcome to the forum Turner.

Nice to have another member fro S Yorkshire.

With that acre of land (if you haven't already) it might be worth burying some caches so you've always got a plan B.

Again, welcome to the forum.

Hi and welcome :)
you could trying to learn how to lay a hedge hawthorn is a good deterrent if its well kept.
If you can get yourself regestered as a small holding(if your not already) you can aply for grants. If you want something to graze under your fruit trees try shropshire sheep as they are well knowen to be tree safe sheep(don't eat the bark) that way you can have meat wool and milk from them

Hi everybody this is my first post which I thought I'd make on this thread, pleased to see some other people on here from Sheffield and South Yorkshire. I'm new to prepping, in fact I've not really done anything at all yet but I think the most important step is deciding to be a prepper.
