Hi from sunny Devon

Post by mushroom »

Hello - been lurking and reading for some time now, so decided it was time to register!

I've been in and out of prepping for some years - a lot of reading and a few homesteading skills, but have kind of come back to it with renewed vigour in recent months. My prepping is mainly for small scale unforseen eventualities - weather, power cuts etc, but I do take an interest in the bigger picture and I think given the current economic climate it pays to have stores in and try and be a bit more self-reliant.

We moved house a year ago to a place with a big plot and 9 fruit trees at the bottom of the garden. I'm hoping once it's cleared (very overgrown - so much work to do!) we can grow at least some of our own food.

I'm a teacher and we have a Forest School in my school grounds. I don't get much chance to use it, but I'm thinking of going on a Forest School Course so I can lead sessions and hone my own bushcraft skills as well as teach the kids - we'll see!

I am hoping to do my forest school leaders course sometime soon, at the moment I dabble with my reception and Y1 children but we have lots of fun!! :D

Thanks for the welcome.

I take my Y1 and 2 children into Forest School occasionally, but there's never enough time! I had a student teacher with me last week who had previously spent 23 years in the Army - so we HAD to have a session down there then - it would have been criminal not to! Fire lighting, shelter building - the kids (and I!) had a great time. The Forest School courses are so expensive though! Nearly £1000 :o for a Level 3 which lets you lead!

Greeting and welcome - there are a few of us in the Plymouth area trying to arrange an informal meet to share ideas/ideologies what post for info you'd be welcome to join us.

If you need a hand scrub bashing - be happy to help.
