SE London newbie prepper

Post by Thunder »

Hi All,

Just found this website when I googled 'London Prepper'.
I've been meaning to get myself more prepped for years - I've always been very conscious of the fragile nature of our comfortable lives.
Living in London puts me in a particularly vulnerable position should the worst happen, but as a move out to the country where I can become a truly self-sufficient survivalist isn't a realistic option, I decided that I should at least give myself the best chance I can in my current position.

I finally took the plunge from just thinking about it, to acting on it this weekend. I was actually thinking about ideas for a novel (another thing I've been thinking about for years) and I was tinkering with the scenario of a countrywide long-term electricity blackout as I have been reading recently about the very real danger of another 'Carrington Event' sized mass coronal ejection from the sun, which could potentially knock out the entire national grid for several months. Before I knew it, I was online ordering windup torches, radios, comprehensive first aid, jerry cans, water containers, water purifying tablets, basic tools, tarpaulin sheets, survival books..... £350 later & an ever growing list of 'essentials' yet to buy, I realised I had almost unconsciously taken the plunge and was now officially a prepper...

Being new to the actual reality of prepping, I have also embarked upon extensive internet research... and here I am.

I haven't read all the threads here yet, but I feel sure I'll find some really useful stuff here & moreover it's really nice to join a community of other people in the UK who have the foresight to take this stuff seriously. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience & advice.

Hello and welcome.

I would like to say that please read all the threads but should you wish to use any of the material in your novel then you must seek permission from the member who wrote the piece and the forum owner.

Thank you.

Don't worry that's not the reason I'm here :D I won't be using anything anyone says on this forum in any way. Heck I haven't even worked out a plot line yet let alone start writing it ;)

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome - I'm slowly working my way through the forum threads - there are some great comments and some really sound advice here - some of it inspired. Glad I found you all.

Cheers

Hello and welcome :) It's amazing how many people actually prep in small ways and don't even think about or realise they prep!
