Hiya from mouser
Middle aged scouser. Been 'gettin ready' seriously since Sept 2000 (truckers strikes) although I've had a 'survival kit' in a Golden Virginia tin in my handbag since Mar 1993! Grown own veg, wheat, fruit etc in garden & kept bees. Discovered usefulness of internet 2004 & Waltons Feed old timers page. Found peak oil websites 2005/6 and conspiracy sites in 2008. bin a lurker on lots of websites ever since until today. Current prep status: Still working on it!

Wheeee! A Scouser! Welcome to the forums, make your self at home...and don't feed the Northerners! They're getting rowdy this time of year..
I used to work with a Scouse girl. She sounded like Cilla Black, so she picked up the nickname "Chuck" despite never actually saying the word herself...fun times..

Hello Mouser!
I am jealous, I would love to keep bees, whilst simultaneously being just a wee bit scared of so many bees in one place at a time (no probls with just a few, I love their humming on a sunny day .... oh no, now I'm dreaming of summer ..... now look what you've done
) Seriously though - how are your bees surviving in this cold weather? Do you add extra insulation to their hive?

Re: Hiya from mouser
Thanks for the great welcome everyone! In reply to the questions.. Getting more bees next spring, got none at present (sad face). As for the veg growing, done the usual spuds, carrots, onions etc. This year we raided some skips for wood and windows, bought some silicone and made a cobbled-up greenhouse and grew tomatoes and peppers and 3 grape & 3 lemon plants from pips! Hours of fun!
As for the wheat, wanted to "grow a loaf" so planted wheat in a box about 4'x5' square, end of Feb, chopped it down in August, threshed it in October (ie put in sheafs in pillow case and batter them over the back of a chair - hours of "no fun" !) Ground a lb of wheat in my little machine (about 20mins)and made wholegrain bread. It was edible , (just) but I need lots of practice! Have grown barley and oats too.
