What tradeable goods do you have stashed, or plan to?

Post by Frnc »

In a SHTF scenario, barter is often used, rather than cash. Do you stock up on things with that in mind? It's worth thinking about. What, if any, things do you stock with trade in mind?

Fractional precious metals, down to 1/10th ounce.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Purification tablets are an excellent idea for trading, probably the best of all. Their barter value would be extremely high. They are cheap to buy, last for 5 years, and take up almost zero space. It's a good idea to put them in water you store anyway, when you swap it out every six months or year. I buy 33mg for this, so I put one in 5l containers, and two in 10l ones, but you can get 67mg and they are actually cheaper. I also buy 8.5mg for water bottles. Most of these small ones are in my EGB/BOB.

Medication and first aid items of course would also be good for trade.

Skills and the means of production, some PM's and useful bits and bobs........ But nothing stocked just for trade (PM's are an extra pension and wealth store)

OTC medication, household cleaning supplies, toiletries, plumbing supplies and tradeable skills. I could likely do a good trade on corned beef and toothbrushes, plums, raspberries, apples and tomatoes right now. I would want to trade for eggs, meat and potatoes and possibly flour.

I keep enough stocks of coffee and cocoa to be able to trade these a little. We can also trade skills for clothing repair, furniture & food preservation skills.
