New knives
Re: New knives
@ Devonian I'm not basing any choice of knife based on going out for a fight. But let's be realistic here if things get that bad and society has disintegrated into a sub human level you will need to fight to protect what is yours and to protect the people close to you, only a very naive person would not be ready for that. And I agree a mora is a good knife as I said earlier but not comparable as I have said in any way to some of the knives I have mentioned.

OK, so you are in the street and 5 guys walk up to you armed with sticks and bats, your knife isn't going to help much!
Far better to get prepped so you don't end up in such situations and ultimately a 3-4 foot length of 2" solid wood dowel is going to be far more useful than a knife for repelling people, and you are far less likely to end up getting killed yourself!
Re: New knives
Of I am bugging out in a badly dangerous situation I will be wearing body armour and will be armed with extendable baton and a gladius machete at the very least if five guys jump me then they will have to kill me. I would rather have a good blade than some Dowling.....

Re: New knives
I bought this one - http://www.heinnie.com/Marbles-Knives/F ... 1010-4209/ I just put paint stripper to take off the orange blade paint, sanded the handle to round off the blocky edges and soaked it in linseed oil for 24 hours.I hav'nt used it much yet , just a little bit of light gardening work , but its held its edge and sharpness no problem. I also bought this one - http://www.heinnie.com/Cold-Steel-Knive ... -974-3239/ a couple of years ago and I hav'nt had any problems with it either and it can be used for any job you would use a fixed blade knife for without having to worry about it collapsing on my fingers lol.
cheers Andrew.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it we live in a country with draconian gun laws and I don't fancy doing a five stretch for being caught with an illegal handgun
so I have to make do with the tools I can legally own.

You could always carry the discussion on via PMs. We have to get the balance right and we don't want scoobie getting into any trouble due to the conversations happening on here.

Re: New knives
Devonian if I wanted to learn how to fight with some Dowling I would. I am 35 years old in top shape train MMA three times a week and go to the Gym three times a week all a part of prepping, so I think I shall leave the Dowling haDevonian wrote:Don't be so dismissive, you might actually learn something.Sirmattyb wrote: I would rather have a good blade than some Dowling.....
