Pepper spray

Post by Arzosah »

Okay, I confess, I'm waiting for my dishwasher to finish its cycle ... I'm not living the life yet, I'm taking every advantage of the conveniences of modern technology (so that I have the energy to go get the train and buy some prepper stuff, honest) ...

Anyway. I was reading this article on Survivalist Blog and its brilliant

http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/how-t ... per-spray/

and the comments are useful too - people are using it as bug spray and I'm sure I can use it to stop a dog coming through the neighbour's fence to my garden. They even mentioned spraying it on wood to stop horses chewing it (I went on a riding week, using The Ridgeway in Oxfordshire, and I was *astonished* at how destructive horses are!).

They're talking about putting rotten eggs in there too, which makes me think of the way composting gurus talk about how bad it smells when you liquefy comfrey leaves to use as a plant feed.

Re-purposing. Thats what it is really. Love it.

Anyone read about the use of Wasp spray as an alternative to Pepper spray. Its the Pyrethrins in the spray that could do damage and you get a longer range with wasp spray of 20 feet. Wasp spray maybe a bit large for carrying around but as a house hold self defense weapon it could have its uses. Its cheaper and can reach a man outside while your still inside but its largely untested on humans as its meant for wasps :D

How interesting, Bear, thank you! I don't have any wasp spray, but I have two flying insects spray, for insects  , so thats a good tip.

I was out walking on Thursday evening researching footpaths on my side of the town centre, and I saw a town council advert on the side of a van about wasp control. Makes me think, in terms of a PAW world - no matter what's going on, you really don't want a wasp's nest on your doorstep. I've seen something recently about a DIY action on a wasps' nest, must find that reference too.

Getting rid of wasps is still about security, in a way, and wikihow had a surprisingly good article:

http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-a-Wasp%27s-Nest

This one's pretty good too:

I didn't know there was so much out there!

I should imagine that keeping a can of wasp spray by front and back doors might keep more 'pests' away than just wasps and flies ;)

I bet it stings the eyes badly

Having the knowledge along with the materials is the way I reckon, we have stocks of herbs and spices so chilli and cayenne pepper will be around for cooking, as will water pistols for playing, I didn't know that pepper spray was illegal here until I read this thread, (like many of us American TV programs can be misleading we know we are tougher on guns but just how much our laws restrict and work against victims before and after the act astounds me at times) I don’t feel the need to possess illegal things prior to a SHTF situation.

I would say that it always has annoyed me how law seems to help the criminal and make things worse or harder for victims, banning and controlling inanimate objects from guns to pepper spray is a no deterrent and poor alternative to the proper proportional punishment of crime
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
