I'm more a knitter than a crochet. I make beanies mainly but still useful with 3 kids

I second the Snugpak Jungle blanket. We use them in the bell tent as an added layer. Lightweight, warm and waterproof. Considering buying a couple more to keep in the car.
Growing old disgracefully!
Re: Quality warm blankets
We keep a number of polar fleece blankets. Some are just lengths of fabric bought from a mill about 25 years ago and they are still going strong for camping, cold nights in the bed, in the back of the car etc. A couple are the under a fiver type from a big box store. The quality is not as good but for that price, I would be happy to ruin one to wrap a messy dog/child/casualty or even stick under a slipping tyre so they live in the car.
Having said that they all machine wash and dry in no time.
