My own domestic back-up is a slow sand filter.I have a linked rainwater catchment.Of course in a shtf situation you can filter water through a cloth and just boil it.I think we have to think low tech in our preps-easy to use and mend.

I think it`s different in Scotland unless they`ve changed the law, in that if you live in a town or village or city where a river runs through, you can fish there free of charge. Here, nobody bats an eyelid if a local fishes, freshwater lochs aplenty and of course, the sea, without a license, it`s ...

How long has that been in effect? Do they have spy satellites watching rivers and stuff? We love the freezer,but we tend now to keep it for mere convenience,our main food storage being tinned dried and preserved.Also the garden supplies a lot of our fresh food.we do have a big gennie to power the freezer in a power cut so the food is not wasted. Tinned meat is good storable protein.I love corned beef(just cos it's Prince Brand don't make it good)spam,luncheon meat,tin stew,mince and so on. Some may turn their noses up at it but it's there when you need it.What I will say is Tesco is expensive.Co op for luncheon meat,Aldi or Lidl for corned ...
