Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 10
Harvested the rest of the raspberries today, they have done really well. Need to plan a day to make pies, crumbles and muffins. Also harvested the tomatoes, added courgettes and basil and made them into sauce, delicious. Will cut down the raspberry canes, empty the greenhouse of my very poor show of...

Re: Fire bricks
Grenfell I was considering buying a couple of the very old fashioned brass bed warmers last year in case of a very cold winter and would fill those with small stones although I have heard that you arent supposed to heat river stones as they can explode. Yorkshire Andy I did think of storage heater b...

Fire bricks
We have two wood burning stoves. The bricks around both fireplaces retain some heat. Would it be worth investing in a few fire bricks to put under the stoves which would then retain some additional heat and therefore keep the room slightly warmer for longer?

Finally, the store room has been tidied and sorted apart from a couple of storage boxes which I need to go through. Feeling much happier and more organised now. Just need to make sure that I keep on top of it from now on.

Depleted the calor gas on holiday so exchanged the bottle today, we have another too which we acquired from our son. Spent the day yesterday chopping pallets and today was spent installing a new CCTV DVR as the old one failed. Oil tank has been filled, first aid stocks checked and replenished as req...

Next door neighbours announced to my husband over the hedge that they have had it this last week. We have had very little contact with anyone due to being away in the Scottish countryside for a couple of weeks. Still have masks, gloves and some just in date tests. Not as worried this time around as ...

Got a new EDC for my birthday and have spent a bit of time organising it and replacing some of the items. Why on earth I was carrying so many feminine hygiene products when I no longer require them I do not know! This bag is a little smaller than my previous one and a little lighter so I have reatta...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener
I thought my crops this year were doing well. Sadly my broccoli has not and cant work out if there is a disease or something lacking in the soil. The heads that I did salvage and rinsed before cooking led to lots of brown beetles crawling into the pan lid ewwww! so perhaps pests. Fruit has done well...

Re: Future home heating
No gas here, we use oil (frugally) and log burners which are fuelled from a combination of free and bought wood. Our son asked why we would pay for wood and not just top up the oil tank? Our reasoning is that we have the oil boiler on for 3 hours a day max and the log burners on for most of the even...
