Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

Ordered a new garden gate from our fabricator last July and some additional metal work for the garden wall. After many texts and phone calls, it finally arrived a couple of weeks ago and was well worth the wait. Now known as "have you locked the big gate?" Also had the security alarm servi...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

I've got a food shop being delivered tomorrow, and I was adding to it tonight - but not nearly as much as I wanted. All sorts of things were showing as available, but it wouldn't let me add them, "no online stock". Jam, soy products, maybe a dozen things, I've never had that before. There...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

I also have tomatoes, chillies and bell peppers which I have just transplanted in our spare room. They are doing really well, but Im just not looking forward to the hardening off process when I have to spend ages taking trays of seedlings out to the greenhouse and bringing them back again every nigh...

Re: Heating your house in the future

I have been thinking about this myself. We have oil heating because the folks before us who bought the house didnt have the gas piped to the house, although its at the end of the drive. United Utilities quoted us £2k to install plus the cost of a boiler many years ago which with 4 kids and only one ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

Ive got tomatoes, chillies and bell peppers germinating in the store room and husband has made some very nice staging from scrap wood for the new greenhouse as I wasnt willing to pay shop prices and it hasnt cost us a penny. I ve grown chillies and bell peppers from seed before, but last year I thin...

Re: Who's getting the vaccine

Both my parents and my in-laws have been vaccinated, 2 fall into the over 80s group and 2 into the ECV group. I was vaccinated last week (key worker) but my boss pranced into the office (wfh) and announced that she had managed to get us on the list and that we should book. The rebellious teenager in...

Contemplating the dig out tomorrow. :?
That is a beautiful photo. Snow is lovely until you need something or need to go somewhere, but I am still a little envious.

Built the greenhouse this weekend and very happy with it too! New gate posts are in ready for the new and much more secure gate, but just discovered a leak in the roof. Couldnt have prepared for that except by being fortunate enough to have a bit of an emergency fund.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

I have just ordered a new greenhouse. We have been using one of those tubular framed, plastic covered cheap ones for the last 3 years. I am very excited. Also had some of our ancient Everest aluminium double glazing replaced too. It's been an expensive week, but worth it.

Re: Power tools

Santa (husband) brought me a new saw an Oregon electric chainsaw to replace the broken reciprocating saw. He knew I hated the petrol chainsaw because I just didnt have the oomph to get it going and when I did it cut out. I was a bit concerned about the weight of it at first, but actually its not too...
