Re: WHO warns vaccinated travellers could still need to be quarantined
That's really bugging me. Maybe, the vaccines only suppress symptoms within the vaccinated ( the biggest symptom being death ) Giving carriers a false sense of security while they may go on to superspread and infect the non-vaccinated. Great for the NHS, for a while. BUT... Thinking about that is d...

The virus will mutate. It’s what they do when their current channel of transmission is curtailed or other selective pressures are applied to their existence. We’ve seen it at least four times already, most recently with a new strain that seems to be much more transmissible. Imagine that! A virus tha...

Hmm. Kindling is my weak spot. I only have about .5m3 of sticks. Need to fix that tomorrow.

God. I’m almost ashamed to say that I am fairly comfortable with my stocks of food etc but twitchy about alcohol. Very first world of course but quality of life matters, particularly in a situation where it’s not the end of the world but you are hunkering down with some nervousness around supply cha...

I carry stocks of a large array of prescription medicines precisely for this reason. If I can’t get official UK-supplied versions I have my preps to fall back on. There are clearly risks with this approach but they can be mostly mitigated. My view is that if I need them in a hurry or can’t get hold ...

Re: Signal flares
light fuse and place plastic bag full of something over charge for a bigger bang. I would strongly discourage anyone from doing this unless you've recieved training in the use of pyrotechnics. While serving in the RAF I saw a demonstration as to why this is a bad idea, a Sargeant set off a thunderf...

Finally getting around to binning old stocks and replenishing. I got a bit of heat on here a while back for wastage. Quite right but my personal circumstances are complicated and I need to buy, file, store, forget. Lots of boxes of tinned/dried foods that are well beyond their date (8 years+) that n...

Re: What reasons do people have for prepping?
What a fabulous, bold, and honest opening gambit :) Hats off to you and such an inspiration! A very warm welcome from someone in an entirely different life arrangement :) I prep because I want to live for as long as I can, to look after those I love as best I can, and to insulate as many people as I...

My wife hates it when I collect wood. Being based in a town it’s stuff from builders rather than deadfall but it’s free and it all burns. I’ve never bought logs in my life - most of my neighbours with fires do. I’ve even trained the kids to look out for ‘good wood’ in skips they see on the school ru...

Re: 2020 Potential Economic Collapse
Keeping stock, as I always have, poison is a major prep. Killing vermin is a constant battle. The only good rat/ mouse is a dead one. As for foxes, they all need exterminating. Until you have had your entire poultry stock killed by one, and your best buck rabbit too, you will never understand; and ...
