Re: Telling the other half you're a prepper

My OH has started to think in terms of prepping now which makes life far easier! Even she's starting to look at food items (that she's interested in obviously) and their shelf-life so I reckon she'll be fully on board soon enough! ;-) She also had it in her head that Syria were imminently going to b...

Re: Sawyer mini bladder substitute in Poundland.

Great find! I popped in to the one local to work for a nose this week & grabbed a few 10L collapsible water carriers that I guessed would be worth a £ each to keep handy.

Re: Power-cut on our caravan site!

It's not so much the TV, ours is actually a 12v (which just occurred to me as we generally just use it on mains) but the Sky Q box would be another drain. One of these days I'll stick my monitor on it to see what it actually uses power-wise. I've also considered getting a second solar panel (we have...

Power-cut on our caravan site!

Ironic that we're away in the caravan this week (we do a "commute week" once or twice a year where we stay at a quiet site that's local enough for me to still commute to work during the week) and we're in the middle of a power cut! Apparently due back on at 23:30 according to supplier web-...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4

I'd imagine a few concrete blocks painted black might actually store/retain a bit more heat as they'd be more solid rather than a radiator with gaps in it? I did something similar when working overseas a few years back. Our cabins got pretty cold at night but we slept in concrete bunkers (military b...

Re: Micro Carry - just a bit of fun

TheUrbanPrepper has an interesting vid of cramming lots of small tools etc. into an altoids tin at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktsZ1lgP3jg which I found quite interesting. Interesting enough to buy a bunch of tiny magnets off ebay to play with my own version! :)

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4

I just got a notification of delivery of a set of BigDug shelving (discovered here, wish I found it years ago!) so this evening shall be building it (5 mins) then standing there imagining what I shall be filling it with :) If it's as good as it looks I'll be getting some more for the garage & lo...

Re: New noob :)

Well, this week, I've mostly been reading/absorbing this forum (so far have read through "How are you prepping this week" parts 2, 3 & 4!) and actually made a start! :-D SO much useful information here, and it's been interesting reading peoples stories over a period of time as well, gl...

Re: New noob :)

Thanks for the welcomes folks! :) Yes, the caravan has me thinking all sorts now as well. I know from experience that when we had an issue with the cooling element in the fridge we had to run it on gas whilst awaiting parts & we got around a week of fridge (& minor gas cooker use) from a 6kg...

Re: New noob :)

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have a grasp of what you're about. One thing to note though My aims aren't really to survive Armageddon, not sure I'd want to TBH! While I feel the same (and consider it unlikely) what if you do ? :o . Realistically? If it's that bad I probably wouldn't have la...
