Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.

I fully agree, Jansman, about the need for cooling a burn and attending A & E for anything other than very minor damage.
My point was simply that for a minor burn of just a few mm on my hand I find these types of dressing invaluable once the obligatory time under the tap is complete.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

I try to do a stock take every few months or so which really helps with understanding our usage. I went a bit mad during lockdown 1.0 with a restaurant supplier. Since then I have been trying to run the (over)supply down a bit. I am bulk buying still for the things we use regularly (coffee beans, ca...

I usually grow basil by splitting supermarket plants too. trying to grow from seed never seems to work well for me for this plant. I feel your pain for the tomato blight. I grow a mix of varieties each year both outdoors and in the greenhouse. I have now given up on some of the late varieties as the...

Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.

For small burns I have fallen in love with the "Faster Healing" plasters. Blister plasters are the same but cheaper. Both provide a "moist healing environment". I have used them now on several small burns and been astonished at how well they reduce pain and how quickly the damage heals.

Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.

The pharmacy is often a good bet for a quick "opinion" from someone on the medical spectrum as well as for the medicine cabinet. Many years ago I worked for a GP and if a patient was told to see the GP asap by the pharmacist we had orders to squeeze them in for an appointment regardless of how fully...

Re: USB power pack

We bought 2 from Lidl with solar panels a year or so back. Neither charged properly using solar so I advise buying from somewhere it is easy to return faulty goods and testing carefully when you get them.

Re: Dentist!

It is clealy dentist week for preppers as I have also visited the dentist last week and back again next week after a filling that started to crumble during lockdown decided to complete the process of falling out. I am just grateful it isn't painful. A colleague of mine suffered badly in lockdown one...

Re: prep fail

If I remember rightly BBQ briquettes are made of charcoal dust bound together with a starch based glue which should burn cleanly. But that means they are basically held together with four and water so I can see how they could go mouldy if damp.

Hi Joanne Welcome to the forum, Prepping really covers such a huge range of things it helps to have an idea where you want to start. At one end is the "everyday" risks. e.g. "what if the only brand of beans my kid eats is out of stock at the shop - think I'll keep a couple of spare cans". At the oth...
