Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist
The headache is storing enough for 4 people. I have a couple of 5 litres tucked under the kitchen plinths. The food storage is under the bed already (& the foot of the wardrobe) and there is no floorspace in the tiny kitchen or bedrooms. I have a little under the bathroom sink too and a bit in t...

Re: Powdered egg ?
Before chicken egg went off limits for us, we found it good in pancakes and standard cake mixes as well as Yorkshire pudding/Toad-in-the-Hole. I think it might work for Spanish Omelette type meals too - i.e. fry up a bit of bacon & a selection of veg, stir in reconstituted egg ^ a bit of cheddar...

Meanwhile the Metro headline rather suggests you wait until a national crisis occurs before hitting the shops..... "Eleven items you need to stock up on in a national crisis" We could use a review of our water stocks - although I have no idea where I could put it but I think we would barel...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener
My perennial kale planted last year, (Daubenton's Panache)has a bad infestation of grey mealy cabbage aphids. I am at a loss to know how to sort it. Apparently ladybirds won't touch them (too full of mustard oil) General advice is to trash the plant but that is not much use for a perennial and it is...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener
I have not been terribly impressed with the coir either. Apparently it is naturally very alkaline and needs to have been correctly treated to reduce this - which does not apply to the cheap stuff. This year I have had a couple of bags of the same seed & cutting compost used by our local nursery ...

Re: Waste Management
It is noticable on our street that some households generate a lot more waste than others. We are in the low to middle end of things. I know we could do better but sometimes it feels like an achievement with my mob to just get them to put stuff in the correct bin. And if you have never thought about ...

Re: Uses for Flour.
I've done a lot of research into frying, poaching (of eggs), and making farls, American pancakes and chapatis. I don't use non - stick pans, because even good ones don't last very long apparently and are not cheap. I followed the suggestion of making chapatis, and I had a good result, although the ...

Re: Waste Management
I am much the same with fabric. Some charity shops will accept bags of "rags" as they still get a pittance for them. I reuse what I can and notice I am veering toward buying natural materials as these are easier to deal with at the end of their life. Worst case I can compost them. The recy...
