Re: New member - Derbyshire

To improve your inbuilt direction system, try to find a very large flat countryside area, have a "good" map reader with you able to direct you and drive through all the local villages slowly and carefully looking for large structures like churches, high rise buildings, large trees. When you have vis...

Re: Walkie Talkie Recommendations

Well I would describe my location and set up..... but not here lol op sec and all that. You make very valid points and I am sure we are both correct as it is very dependant on your location and the geography of where you are operating. I must admit I am not a fan of the UV5r but I do own lots of the...

Re: Walkie Talkie Recommendations

My UV5R will cover over a hundred miles with ease when connected to my Diamond X200 white stick which is mounted high on my house, which itself is at the top of a hill... So distance is always easy at height. For pedestrian use a "tactical antenna" which folds out to be about 1m in length will cover...

Re: Walkie Talkie Recommendations

I would also recommend the Beofang UV5R, standard range is accross most towns but you can get a tactical antenna or a car antenna which will cover 30m easily. My UV5R will cover 100 miles on my home antenna. The PMR channels are fine for playing but they are full off builders and kids etc. No one en...

Re: Big Berky water filter

I have the biggest birkey filter and it is fab, had it for years and had no problems with the taps etc. I can fit 8 filters into mine and it filters very fast. I dont think the gauges are worth the money as you can easily tell how much water is in there by the sounds it makes and the water pressure....

Re: Tiny house

Best advice would be to get yourself very intergrated into the community, know everyone by name and make sure you get on with everyone!!! I personally would suggest playing a long game and planting lots of tree cover, hedges etc, then I would build underground. Local councils use drones for enforcem...

Re: New Shed questions

I have tired the 50/50 used oil/deisil mix and it works very very well, it will last for many many years however..... Andy is correct about not putting it on to the pressure treated timber, I made that mistake and it took nearly 6 months to dry, 6 months of making any clothes that touched it dirty.....

Re: Gadgets everywhere

I followed tec for many years, enjoying all the new inovations but I have now turned my back on most of them for a simplier life. I do not agree with over complicating equipment, a dishwasher that texts you when its finished or a fridge that re orders your milk when you run out, for several reasons....
