Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9
Only 11 deg C in the lounge whan we got up this morning - heating had been on half an hour. It's just up to 16 now and that's with the open fire lit too. A stove is planned for next winter. Mr A had to go out this morning and the car thermometer read -8.5. I walked the dog and my feet were beautiful...

Jansman, I have nothing to add to what anyone else has said but I am thinking of you.

Re: Allotment: Woo Hoooo!!! :) :) :)
When I had an allotment some years and several house moves ago, my neighbour said he'd taken one on in October. He persuaded the council that he didn't have to pay rent until January because there was no way he was going to get a crop off it that year. If you have access to cardboard, put 2 layers o...

Re: Wooden or single glazing
Our new house (1970s build) has mostly plastic double glazing but there are a few wooden double glazed windows. The wooden ones have a smaller space between the glass panels and the wood has rotted in places so I think they will be replaced by plastic when funds allow, although I don't like it much....

Our furry hot water bottle, name of Horace, likes to sleep where my feet would go if I didn't curl up in bed. From time to time when it's really cold, I have been known to slowly slide my feet underneath him to warm them up again. He doesn't shriek like Mr A does if I try and warm them up on him. I ...

Re: Hungry kids
Back in the day I was a "lunch-time supervisor" at my sons' school. I was horrified by some of the packed lunches sent in: A 6" piece of baguette (no filling or even butter on it) or 2 bags of crisps. That particular mum had no money problems but a seeming lack of awareness about heal...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9
Just checked mine and the ones I got last week expire a year earlier than the ones I got 2 months ago.(Only one of the too many drugs I take these days). I wondered if it was to do with being in a different town since we moved last month. I will keep an eye on them. The rest were OK.

Re: Car v public transport
We recently moved (at last) and one of my requisites was that public transport was available as our last place (much loved, sob sob) was in the middle of nowhere and a car was a necessity for everything as there were no supermarket deliveries etc due to the difficulty in getting there, 5 miles to th...

Re: Value Range foods compared
In the past I have noticed Lidl sells things for a cheaper price where we live than at our sons' local shop 150 miles away. I have been known to buy things here and take them when I have been visiting them. It is not the only shop that has different prices in different shops. There are 2 Asda superm...

Just checked the cash stash as paper £20 and £50 notes will not be legal tender after 30th September. Mine are all plastic now. You can still exchange them at banks but shops don't have to take them.
