Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener
That strawberry is looking great to me. I would just give it a bit of shelter but no heat or it might think it's later in the winter than it is. I've always found strawberries to be pretty tough. Actually, all my plants need to be tough because I can't be bothered with ones that need cossetting.

It would be a good idea to ask other allotmenteers whether they get blight on their tomatoes BEFORE you start planting yours. I know when I had an allotment, my neighbour, a long term grower, told me there was no point trying to grow tomatoes out of doors there due to blight. Some people always trie...

Re: Knitters
Much as I would love to show off my projects here, I can't get my phone to speak to my computer. Never mind, my sons are coming soon so I will get them on the task.

Re: Allotment: Woo Hoooo!!! :) :) :)
If it was my allotment, I would cover the lot with something that excludes the light (doesn't really matter what) and gradually work on it a bit at a time. If you clear it all, you won't have time to plant it all before the weeds come back. Does the ruling body have its own ideas about what you can ...

The lowest here was -9 but it didn't get above freezing for 5 days. Even with the oil central heating and the fire on it takes hours to get the living room to a bearable temperature. If it's sunny, no problem due to the large SE facing patio doors. I'm still finding gaps to draught-proof but the maj...

Regarding acupuncture, there was an anaesthetist on tv some years ago who said he'd been using acupuncture to prevent nausea and vomiting post anaesthetic. He was fairly incredulous because he said there was no way he expected a result but, in his words, "it worked". He had no idea how but...

Re: Keep an eye on your plumbing!
The utility room here is unheated and the pipe lagging is very makeshift but even though it was -9 here the other day, it kept the pipes from freezing. (There was ice on the inside of the double glazed bedroom windows but that's another story) I did discover that the washing machine was leaking but ...

Made sausage-type draught excluders to go at the base of the doors into the living room. One wasn't successful. Guess what, the draught was coming from the poorly sealed patio doors and not under the door to the dining room. (I assumed the curtains were blowing due to an under-door draught.) Makeshi...

Only 11 deg C in the lounge whan we got up this morning - heating had been on half an hour. It's just up to 16 now and that's with the open fire lit too. A stove is planned for next winter. Mr A had to go out this morning and the car thermometer read -8.5. I walked the dog and my feet were beautiful...

Jansman, I have nothing to add to what anyone else has said but I am thinking of you.
