Re: tisept antiseptic sachets

Re: Savoury Porridge

There's also the porridge drawer, make unsweetened porridge, tip it into a container (literally used to be a drawer in the kitchen dresser) to cool and set and then slice it and fry it in bacon fat. Tried this with my bacon and eggs this morning (made some extra porridge yesterday and let it set) i...

Re: Pressure canner sizing/filling

I'll keep an eye on Sainsburys, unfortunately there is no Dunelm, B&M, Home Bargains, The Range, Poundland (or any £ store), Lidl or Aldi anywhere close to me or on any route I normally take (except for a Home Bargains if I am going to my parents via my ex-wife's which is a rarity).

Re: Pressure canner sizing/filling

Jars can be re-used any number of times. I have some old Kilner Dual purpose jars that were my mother's and I still use them today, although not for pressure canning anymore as they hold too much sentimental value for me to risk them. My other canning jars have been used many times and I have in ex...

Re: Pressure canner sizing/filling

The process described there is water bath canning Abagorth, a totally different procedure. :) Ah sorry, it mentioned large pan or pressure cooker so thought they were referring to both methods. I was doing some research on canning today, as I thought I'd give it a try, I have a really large stock p...

Re: Pressure canner sizing/filling

Ooh excellent advice! Ta muchly! Don't get sucked in to the All American talk about no need for a gasket on their canners either. Firstly, a gasket lasts years, and I worked out that I could buy 100 years' worth of gaskets for my Presto and still not spend the difference in price between the two Bu...

Re: Savoury Porridge

Thanks for the heads up, wasn't really planning on buying any off Amazon, it was just the first link that came up, I will check out my local ASDA and Waitrose, but I haven't noticed it in either and I whilst I wasn't Haggis shopping I was checking out their tin section in detail recently, however th...

Yum, I love Haggis, haven't had it for years either. I wonder if you can buy Haggis in a tin?

Edit: Seems you can https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grants-Premium ... B004MXQ7E4 wonder if it is any good?

Savoury Porridge

Porridge Oats are a great preppers staple, but as I haven't eaten them for years (decades?) and vaguely remember that I didn't much like them, so I wanted to give them a go before buying kilos. I bought some instant packets from Tesco with Golden Syrup flavour, it was okay but way too sweet for me (...
