Re: DIY dentistry

I have an abscess and feel awful, the whole right side of my jaw is painful, my ear hurts, the throbbing is terrible and I have a headache. I felt it coming on yesterday took painkillers, did saltwater mouthwashes and phoned the dentist for an emergency appointment this morning. Got antibiotics than...

Re: Gas canisters

Out of interest where does one dispose of cannisters if they are rusting? Found some right at the back of our camping storage, I seem to recall inheriting them from someone. I am obviously not going to risk using them or disposing of them with the household waste. Will a recycling centre accept them...

Re: What temperature do you have your house.

We have used the oil heating very little this year. We tend to use it manually rather than setting the timer unless we know it is going to be very cold. We all leave the house fairly early so I cannot see the point in warming the house when nobody is going to benefit from it. We have log burners in ...

Re: Old fashioned or home cures

As a child with an upset stomach I was given a drop of whisky or brandy in hot water with a bit o sugar. That would likely be classed as a safeguarding issue these days. I tend to rely on a squeezed lemon with honey and hot water and a couple of paracetamol for colds. Inhaling steam for coughs. We s...

Re: Prepping when ill or infirm

A bit of a thought here, we were plagued by the inlaws and their never ending issues with light bulbs going, we eventually replaced the whole lot with LED's but never quite knew whether they were bayonet bulbs, screw ins, small or large fittings. Now we have sold their house and they are well looked...

Re: Cooking during power outage

I can knock out a pretty good stew on the woodburner and the tent woodburner too. We also have the calor gas camping stove and grill and the barbeque plus several other wood and gas cartridge camping stoves. We camped in -5C in the bell tent last year with the woodburner, properly fitted of course (...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

We had a load of logs delivered at the weekend, I dont like paying for wood but we can keep the house heated for longer with logs than we could if we just relied on the oil heating and people tend to get greedy and put the prices up when there is a demand such as when the weather gets colder. Also s...

Re: Snow.......

We wouldnt starve as we have enough food to last a while and alternative cooking sources, we have wood so could keep warm and we have the truck to get around in. My first port of call would be to collect my Dad and probably "borrow" a few of his bottles of wine as I dont really keep it in ...
