Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.
Just ambling along, really. Adding to the stash as we go through frightening amounts of chocolate (me) and toilet paper (the rest :D) . Went through the out of date stuff a few days ago, but aside from a few tins of fish, there wasn't a lot to chuck. The fish was in ring-pull cans, which I don't tr...

Re: Free online book website
That's a great site. I've had to figure out how to change the files for my Kindle, but there are a few sites that do that for you. Great resource. Ta. What I do is on a book page that you want, click advanced search, click any language to English and any extension to pdf, if the book is in pdf form...

Re: Tin opener
Best tin opener I've ever had was a Sainsburys basic type for a couple of quid. I bought 3 more of them, They'll even open a Fray Bentos pie tin
Of course as soon as I noticed how good they are, they changed them. Typical.

Re: Cooking - bugging in
I have to bug in, no other viable alternative. So after reading this thread, I've taken delivery of some gel fuel. I'd imagine it'll take a while to actually cook with, but I'll give it a go this afternoon.
Looking forward to it.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.
I too am a hoarder. And I too now have stove envy :) Gave up on the idea of fences to keep the cats out, so bought a cross between a poly tunnel and cloche to go over the raised beds. Took a while to seal it off so that the first winds don't fly it into the next county, but it seems to fit nicely no...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.
I'm planting some spring cabbage and some onions for next year. Hoping the cabbages won't be eaten by insects if they are out over winter. Putting a few fences around my raised beds, to stop the cats crapping all over them or the grand-kids digging them up. Looking at making the shed more secure too...

Re: Berkey water system
I got a Royal Doulton 10 litre model, with the Super Sterasyl filters. Around £80 on eBay. After two lots of filters came to the end of their natural, I got 2 black Berkey filters for it. Paid around £70 for them. I 'primed' them using syringes, making sure the air bubbles come through. They should ...
