Re: Potable Water Storage
I can see everyone is preparing differently, I'm just going down the olde bottled water route. I've got about 10 litres per person of bottled luxury drinking water. I would like to get some of those plastic jerry cans in future and stash one each of those away too, just full of tap water. Advice sug...

Re: invertor advice
Do what that bloke says. I've bought some cheap Chinese ones from eBay, one didn't work at all and the other one didn't work for very well or for very long. For laptops and phones and things, though, there are direct 12v adaptors that work fine. I'd go for them if they're justifiable. Just realised ...

Re: Money suggestions
I'm so happy with how this thread is going! What brilliant posts! I'm learning all the time. Jaffab - made up you've been so successful. I'd love to pick your brains and learn from you. I've been reading books about this stuff as you know, I'm aware there are many mind sets, I'm just trying to devel...

Re: Money suggestions
Deeps - why not get onto some interest compounding investments through your ISA? Take the extra dosh you're making and throw it at an emergency fund. Property is only one way to go. I would like to own my house, and money no objective I would, but the rules have all changed and stashing money into i...

Re: Money suggestions
My bad, double post - just added the bit about the 7% ISA. It's amazing how much 150k will actually pay you per month through one of these ISAs. I would argue that 7% is modest over a mortgage period, and that's why I'm hoping to learn to be a more sophisticated investor. Even property partner are p...

Re: Money suggestions
It's a controversial subject, people get emotionally attached to their homes. I do it too of course. But the principle is that you should invest for cashflow rather than for appreciation. According to all these books, American based, houses have only gone up on average with inflation, so anyone who ...

Re: Money suggestions
Hey y'all. Thought I'd resurrect this thread because this has been my main time investment after earning bread and spending time with family. I've read a few books, got a load more to work through, and now I'm slightly closer to my goals. But I wanted to ask about land - has anyone ever bought land ...

Re: Future of healthcare.
I've never changed my mind. We're all doomed in my opinion. I've thought that since about 1991 when I learned what a government was. I have particular angst for May because, as with everyone, we only really pay attention to politics that has an affect on you. And since my wife and oldest son depend ...

Ah right, I thought politicians were an acceptation to that rule... My bad.
By the way, I'm not anti Tory, I'm anti May.
