Re: Rising energy prices mitigation

My central heating boiler has been out of action for a week - I had an appointment with The Man today, and all is fine. I wasn't expecting any problems - it's only October, I have a convector heater for emergencies, I didn't live with central heating till my mid-20s (normal for those days, if a litt...

Good grief. The slow motion seems to be speeding up a little bit :(

Re: Will we end up in lockdown again?

No problem being in disagreement with each-other. In an ideal world, we could just use individual responsibility. But just as we have a highway code and traffic laws, society has shown for centuries that we cannot self regulate. It only needs a few prolific 'minglers' to be superspreaders. Do you t...

Re: given the news over the past few weeks

I don't think I have enough fuel for any of the stoves that I have - I can collect twigs etc for the insulated rocket stove, sure, but I haven't been taking the fuel situation seriously enough. Can't check on that before Sunday ... I'll see.

Re: Prepping Disasters & Epic Failures?

I've wasted a fair amount of money by buying plants and seeds and then not planting them in time for them to prosper, or drowning the seeds by my ridiculous watering habits.

Re: Rising energy prices mitigation

- I've been watching youtube videos about how to use a sealant gun - there are big gaps in a couple of rooms between the top of the skirting board and the wall. Most of the prep work now done, I'll see how it goes today. Use decorators caulk... It's water based so if you make a mess it scrapes up a...

Re: Rising energy prices mitigation

These are good lists :) My action points: - get the boiler serviced. Ahem. It's currently refusing to switch on, fault code 0F, which tells me it needs a service. - bleeding the radiators - apparently that's something we should always do when heading into winter. - remember to switch the oven off be...

Re: Mincemeat

Great post! I've made a fairly standard mincemeat in the past, with chopped cranberries and ground almonds thrown in. And I've been known to put a dessertspoon of it into my porridge :D

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

LOL arzosah I feel your fear    But I have to say, you need special spray for pppiders. I got it on amazon but it cost £15. You spray it along the threshold of the doors to stop the sods coming in. And round windows. I sleep better now that it's done. Hope no more got into th...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

My preps: Hmph. I brought the makings of my first cup of tea up to bed last night - one of the enormous 'piders with fangs/green slime/breathing fire made its way into the house - I got it to leave via the vacuum cleaner, but sprayed so much insect killer around the living room it'd be kind of toxic...
