Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

Going ( sort of) with the peat thread; tomorrow my car is in for service, MOT and a tyre repair. So, I shall cut and stack yet more firewood in the morning, get more home brew on the go and then spend the afternoon in my workshop tying fishing rigs, with You Tube fishing videos for company! My veg s...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

We finally got our new peat bank allocated to us, so we have spent many hours over the last 2 weeks up there. Digging peat for winter fuel is heavy work at first but well worth the effort. We normally burn wood that I can source almost for free, but peat burns better and for longer. Hopefully we ca...

Re: Equipping a vehicle

I have a folding shovel ( US military job), that only goes into the car when there is a threat of snow. I work in South Derbyshire, so snow in Winter is always a possibility. As Yorkshire Andy said- it’s better than nothing; and to be honest, I have used a folder to dig terriers when fox hunting, and...

Re: Security

Make sure you know where everything is, practice moving around in the dark. And yell men's names - my first instinct was always to yell for my sons even though they are long gone. Scream at top of your voice "Kevin get up! - Michael wake up there's a burglar!" The burglar might not take a chance if...

Re: Security

Never considered the dry powder extinguisher- I have two upstairs- ( don’t care about the mess).I can also revert to my military training-when the ‘ammunition’ runs out, the extinguisher/gun becomes a blunt object!! As a moderator I shouldn’t say such things. :o In my experience with crime against t...

Re: Security

Hi. We don’t discuss ‘weapons ‘ here. I do understand,I have daughters a similar age to you. I have a heavy mag light torch next to the bed. If I have to investigate a noise- “ I picked up my emergency torch officer, the lights didn’t work, and when I defended myself, the torch was in my hand”. You ge...

Re: Equipping a vehicle

It sounds like you're pretty covered. I did carry a fold up spade during winter months but I haven't put that back in for a few winters now. Probably ought to as I'm just tempting fate really! I just bought a shewee and a couple of toilet bags to add to my car bag. I have a little hex stove, mess t...
