Hi, I live in Northern Ireland and in the winter of 2010 I was left with no electricity and no water supply for just over a week, I accept that many people have had far worse to cope with, but this was a wake up call for me.
I had no water stored, no candles, no generator and worse than that, NO MONEY as I had been made redundant a couple months earlier.
With a wife and three kids to support this can put a new perspective on things.
I believe that we have become too reliant on others to look after us and if I was asked “what do I prep for ?” the real answer would be “lean times” now that may be due to unusually severe weather, redundancy or sickness/injury, as I don’t get sick pay, but I also see the looming financial and food and fuel poverty catastrophes on the horizon.
I have now got a prepping / self sufficiency mindset and will enjoy reading what others share on this forum.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

I'm new to the forum aswell, so it feels patronising welcoming you.... but welcome. I live in Newcastle, county down and am looking to be in touch with other preppers nearby. I too have been without water and electricity, although not for as long as you were. I keep extra water during the winter and over this coming summer I will be stockpiling logs, coal, heating oil, water, fuel etc so that if we were to have another lot of power cuts, fuel shortages etc that I can keep my wife and 2 boys in some sort of comfort. You never know when you might fall on hard times so always better to be prepared. The Wife thinks im mad but one day I will be able to say 'I told you so' (for once) lol
