Re: help for first 5 items for bob
You will probably get many different answers depending on what people prioritise, for me it would be something to shelter under, something to make a fire, something to eat, something to drink and carry water, a decent knife / multitool.

A good knife is really important, coz you can make a shelter with it, you can cut wood to make a fire, you can defend yourself , post SHTF, skin a rabbit or use for road kill
For heat, lighters, storm matches, cotton wool in Vaseline.
A good size tarpaulin , some para cord and a few tent pegs and 2 branches gives you shelter plus ground sheet all in one.
Every responsible man should carry a condom instant water bottle check which ones are suitable
I would add a mess tin to cook/eat/drink from
To add an extra essential knowledge! no point having every thing if you don't know what to do with it.

Re: help for first 5 items for bob
I would have to agree, a knife or multi-tool is well up there on the list.
I'd also put forward some way to keep warm. Whether its making fire, a good quality sleeping bag, or even just a 1.99 Tesco's space blanket.
Speaking of crimbo pressies, about 80% of the presents I've been buying have been either bushcraft or prepper related, from BCB trekker survival tins to Firesteel! Warm jumpers to these fancy neck buff things to keep warm!
The other 20% is Whiskey...
