Not sure where to post this one really - butis anybody else noticing the constant sneaky and awful rise in prices? I get Lavazza Rosso coffee beans from Sainsbugs often. A few weeks ago £12.50. Last week £14.50. Today's price is £18.50 And it's not the only thing that's going steadily up. Hard to prep when you're on a tight budget

Oh yes my favourite tipple Stella regularly goes up to £18 a case of 18... Then between the supermarkets one random week it drops back to £12. I must look like a p155 head buying 4 packs at the reduced price of they can afford to knock £6 off at random I wonder what their mark up is


Same with lots of other stuff we had a Aldi open recently in town it was very cheap for the first month then the prices equalled Lidl which is as good as opposite ... Go in now and it's mostly empty/ quiet ... Once people start watching the pennies you start loosing customers / sales .. aldis cheddar biscuits copies were 49p now 95p. I only pop in there now if there's something in the middle isle I want / need / don't need or want the chocolate rich tea biscuits fir my pack up


Mrs Andy is a good watcher of prices .. from our house within 2 miles theres Asda / B&M then Tesco then Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi it's no hardship to shop about

That's before you take Iceland & farm foods (they seem to have stopped the vouchers / fliers that got posted monthly after lockdown there really jacked the prices .. go in now its like a ram raided lidl. They had kayaks by the door last week ... ) and the little European mini markets which are great for fruit / veg and obscure beers some of which are very nice

Try and buy from local coffee businesses if you can. You are supporting a local business and if you buy a bigger bag, it will save you money in the long run.

I know of one business down in Morpeth that were on Dragon’s Den and do excellent coffee, I occasionally get a delivery from them and it’s well worth it.
Unashamedly plugging them as my mate is the brother of the owner.

Cofee harvests have been poor and affected by disease for several years now. We buy in largish amounts from Caffe Prima who are usually fairly priced but I note that they too have just added 50p a kilo to the price.
The one I was cross about was at Sainsbury's last week. Their green pea fusilli is one of very few we can eat as we are strictly gluten free although I don't buy it that often.
Not so pleased when I realised that the pack size is a small 250g ( am sure it used to be 500g a year or so back) but the price is up to £1.70 so almost £7 a kilo.
I am not seeing any good news on the harvest front so think that the era of cheap-ish food is well & truly gone. And my grow your own efforts have not been much good this year either.
The other one to watch is chocolate. Again, multiple poor harvests are skyrocketing the cost. I dont know how stocks will be for Christmas, let alone Easter.

Lil: You may want to look online. My preferred supplier does a "continental blend" at £10.50/kg Even including the cost of postage for smaller orders that would be cheaper.

Sains TTD Columbian is ok, dead cheap, just over £2 for 100g. I like L'or Artiste Vigoroso Intensity 8 when it's half price. Sometimes is mix the two.

Yes I have noticed a few sneaky ones.

Am now buying Utterly Butterly Lightly instead of Flora Lighter, I prefer it on toast. Slightly higher cals.

I can reach Tescos and Sainsbugs, that's all. I'm very fussy about my coffee and stick to Lavazza. Just looking at amaz for it now. I noticed the chocolate going up as well, we don't eat much of it so that's bearable - but this week I've switched to gluten and lacto free food and that isn't cheap

With 4 of us in the house eating gluten free I have resorted to bulk buying GF oats and GF buckwheat flour. (Dove Farm use maize in their GF blend which is also off limits for us)
Buying from the "Free From" aisle is a fast way to blow your budget. We stick to plain meat, veg, fruit, dairy as far as we can and only use Free From where there is no choice. Bread is especially bad. At nearly £4 a loaf, it is strictly for treats and no longer an everyday food.

I see that Gilly yes don't eat much bread, just handy for the odd slice of toast. Don't like biscuits, and anything else I can just eat plain food, don't have to have a cupboard full of fancy GF stuff. It's an experiment to see if it makes me feel less like a dying slug.
I just wonder where things are going this winter, with food still going up (although nobody seems to notice or care) - and then the heating bills and fuel will soon go the same way. Life got a whole lot tougher these last few years and we need to be tougher to deal with it. Reminds me of the 70s and I didn't enjoy that at all
