CB SSB

Post by shed the state »

Hi Guys
We are trying to come up with a way we can communicate with our local group. Our group covers a whole county. We have a handful of ham radio operator, but most of our members are not licensed.
I am wondering is CB SSB might be a good alternative.
We are probably looking at a maximum of 100 miles
What do you guys think?

Hi there,
CB radio will not cover 100 miles unless conditions are perfect and even then you’d be lucky, has been done but quite rare, ham radio is the way to go, foundation license is not rocket science nor is it expensive, radios are actually cheaper than CB.

Are there repeaters in the area ? They enable you to get much further (100 miles is pushing it though, to say the least).
To use legally you'd need a license.
