I note that Red's setup takes the entire feed from those downspouts. The collectors for typical home butts take just a small proportion of what comes down the spout and are very inefficient by design. If TSHTF, I'd dash out and block off the bottom runoff part of my collectors to give 100% capture. Indeed, it would make sense to do that now and just fit the butts with their own overflow. Yes. I think I'll get that done as a project.
