This article seems to explain a lot of the various options around for purifying water. As has been mentioned elsewhere water is the No1 priority and it is well worth learning a few different ways to do it instead of just relying on one system. A Berkey (or similar) is fine, but if it gets broken, lost, stolen etc you will be screwed if that is your only method of purification

I just thought that i would add a little something perhaps you might like to know and that is that some Chlorine, Chloride, fluoride and any other chlorine-based sterilising solutions such as bleach (sodium hypochlorite.) Salt water (brine) is known to corrode stainless steel depending on the quality
So just be aware that a nice stainless steel container may look prefect for storing water but it can corrode
it might get little brown pit marks or flecks in the surface which if not stopped will turn into leaks
