Re: Home Security Upgrades

I recently set up a covert off grid camera to catch antisocial behaviour. The stalker had been covering the existing camera in the location and damaging the cable.

I located the camera in a Spax screws box (they have a window). It was dumped in a plant pot like discarded rubbish. It was a wifi camera, connected to the home network and monitored using a smartphone. It has a motion sensor and records to the cloud. The whole system ran off 12v 7Ah emergency light backup batteries.

The camera is a digoo dg-w02f this runs very good software but they are hard to get hold of.

The evidence is secured and the person has now got a restraining order.

For my home set up I have covert cameras watching the back yard recording to DVR which I can access from the Web or monitor real time. IR laser can be very useful for long range illumination or creating invisible trip points- triggering alarms/cameras.

My home set up can run off mains or 12v 40w total.

I also use defensive planting to keep people out of the garden. I have a very thorny aggressive bramble wuth barbed thorns like razorwire.

There have been one or two odd characters walking up and down the road at night according to my CCTV

Just ordered one of these and will keep by the door:

https://preppersshop.co.uk/explorer-gro ... 8300-p.asp

13.5 inches long and quite legal and explainable

Also got one of these:

Just about legal and not quite so explainable

Perhaps not by the door. On the way to the door may, er, illuminate, the situation better?

:| I wouldn't try to use that item description as a defence..... But unless you have Coppers calling round your house it shouldn't be an issue.

You might get away with the torch but the baton would be a big no , my wife use to wlak home when i was working and from the place she worked had to pass a wooded area and use to get some strange people , i got her a martial art baton and this was years ago she kept in her bag and funny we ended up friends with the local police to the point they use to drop in our flat but back to the baton , so one day we went to a meetign and police friend was asking to check ladies bags and then showed them how to use keys if grabbed from behind and so on and my wife pulls out the baton and he said now that will get you arrested in a noraml life best not carry it .

See it is funny the law protects the criminals , i am now a big fan of lights and locks over other forms shall we say , but i guess if your out and about well we all do what we have to , i can't think of the comedian who was saying about his friend with a big carving knife under her bed incase of burgulars and her policeman frind told her that it was illegal it is a weapon so she said ok i take the large roasting fork to and say it was for cutting my food lol , also the lady with the baseball bat by her bed and told nope that is keepign a weapon you have to show it is for sport so she put a baseball and glove with it lol .

I can vouch for maglites i have a one one 25 years plus rechargeable i just converted to led and that is a monster

Hi Steptoe

Agree with you about the 'hiking pole' but I do have another trick up my sleeve :)

A few years ago (on a certain birthday) I received a walking stick, one from here:

https://www.oldeshillelagh.com/

Mine is the Classic Grip (O'Caidhla). I do use it as a walking stick at times - enough to have neigbours remember me use it. It is made from blackthorn and is rock hard (the head had lead in it). I take it with me more and more these days, even if I just leave it in the car. Could come in quite handy! As the site says:
With a focus on using these items as a walking aid they also retain the self defence capabilities of a traditional Shillelagh club.

That 'trekking pole' is a bit unusual. It says it is 64 cm long when expanded. I have two Gram Counter Fastpacker carbon poles. (NB, first photo on their web page shows them collapsed, they expand to three times as long)
They are adjustable 110 to 135 cm, ie over twice as long. This is roughly elbow height for an average adult male. Maybe I would have mine set to about 125 - 130. You hold a trekking pole with your arm bent roughly 90° at the elbow. Also, all the trekking poles I've seen have shaped grips, and straps to rest your wrist in.
These only collapse to 65 by the way, same as yours expanded! This is a bit long if you want them inside most packs, but I couldn't resist the weight and price. I have one strapped to the outside of my bugout bag. It will act as the tent pole. If I was bugging out on foot I'd take the other one as well.

I like the idea of using a trekking pole as a tent pole :)
